GERRITSEN BEACH, Brooklyn (PIX11) – Cops say they have solved a murder mystery that started when the naked body of a 14-year-old  girl was found on a beach in Brooklyn. They’ve arrested 20-year-old Christian Ferdinand in Maine and charged him with 2nd degree murder.

Published reports say Ferdinand is the boyfriend of Shaneisha Forbes.  The teen was an aspiring nurse, but her burned and naked body was found in early January on Gerritsen Beach near Lois Avenue.

Cops say he was busted while hiding out in Maine.

Community activist Tony Herbert is close to the family.

“They are quite relieved,” Herbert said. “They were involved in the investigation, they were very forthcoming sharing information including her Facebook page with the police.”

Ferdinand reportedly suffocated the teen because he thought she was pregnant.  Officials say, however, the teen was not pregnant.

He allegedly burned her body and tried to put it into the ocean to get rid of the evidence. Ferdinand reportedly killed the girl in his apartment and kept her body in a suitcase there for a couple of days before taking her to the beach.

The family is planning a press conference for Thursday morning.
