Mother’s Day robbery caught on camera

 NEW YORK (PIX11)– “They grabbed him from behind, grabbed his chain, I feel sorry for him.”

Mohammad Diabate is describing how two men took advantage of an elderly man and it was all caught on surveillance video.

Take a look two against one.

A 78-year old man fighting back with a bouquet of flowers he just purchased to lay at his mother’s memorial in time for Mother’s Day.

“I think they followed him from Southern Blvd to here; he tried to help himself and fight back with the flowers,” says Diabate.

The victim put up a good fight; still the suspects were able to grab his gold chain and pendant from around his neck then take off.

Detectives working another case in the area chased the suspects, arresting one, the other got away.

Back at the scene, this 99 cents store on Tremont Avenue, Mohammad and other workers are glad they have surveillance cameras to deter criminals.

The only wish is that they were able of do more to help this elderly man get flowers to his mother’s grave.

“I feel so bad, I could not do anything. I was working and I could not help him,” says store worker Alima Hiuacciel.
