Dr. Lawrence Balter discussed the steps the three young women will need to take on the road to recovery after having been held captive for almost 10 years.  He stressed the importance of family bonding, psychological counseling, and incrementally coming to terms with the whole range of emotions that will emerge in the aftermath of their imprisonment.  As to whether they can ever assimilate and lead normal lives, Dr. Balter says resilience can be bolstered by proper treatment.  For now, they need time to process the horrific past.  Recovery will be gradual.
