In a story that is sure to turn many stomachs, Chinese authorities have busted a crime ring that was selling the meat of rats and other small mammals and passing it off as mutton.

According to Reuters, investigators discovered that rat, mink and fox meat was being spiced up, injected with various chemicals and sold in markets in Shanghai and Jiangsu province.

The Ministry of Public Security released a statement on their website Thursday detailing that since January, over 900 people have been arrested for meat-related crimes and over 20,000 tons of illegal products had been seized.

It is believed that the crime ring has made over $1.62 million from hustling fake, carcinogen filled meats.

On Friday, Chinese judicial authorities announced they would be seeking harsher punishments for people who peddle unsafe and fraudulent food products.
