NEW YORK (PIX11)- The man who threatened to jump off of the Brooklyn Bridge on Saturday is safe thanks to the NYPD’s emergency services unit.

The man climbed up the bridge just before 3 p.m.

For over an hour three police officers calmly talked down the 52-year-old who repeatedly told them he was going to jump.

They convinced him he would get all the help he needed and that jumping was not the answer.

The bridge was shut down to cars and pedestrians on both ends during the ordeal causing massive traffic delays.

The man was taken to Bellevue hospital for evaluation.

Witnesses cheered as the officers and the man climbed down.
