Investigators are trying to explain why facial recognition technology failed when it came to identifying the suspects in the Boston Marathon bombings.

Law enforcement had video and multiple photos, and one of the suspects had been on two terror watch lists.

But even with that, facial recognition couldn’t answer the question of who these men were.

Engineers are now working to develop next generation software that canĀ  change poor and partial images into much clearer pictures.
