Fleet Week canceled because of sequester cuts

It’s official: because of the sequester, Fleet Week has been torpedoed.

Because of federal budget cuts, the Navy announced that there will be no additional sailors or Marines in New York City, as it costs taxpayers $10 million to hold Fleet Week each year.

Although officials say that Fleet Week generates money for the city, the Navy had to make cuts to save money and unfortunately, the annual event got the ax.
