NEWARK, NEW JERSEY (PIX11)- Violence in Newark may be worse than it appears.

The city has been highlighting a recent drop in homicides, twenty-five percent for the first three months of the year.

But a report in the Star Ledger points out that violent crime in Newark is actually holding steady.

Robberies are actually up eighteen percent.

The paper quotes the police director as saying the city isn’t celebrating the report, just trying to point out that it’s making progress.
