33 killed in Peru bus crash

PERU (PIX11)–  At least 33 people are dead after a packed passenger bus tumbled into a river early Saturday morning.


The accident took place near the Peruvian city of Trujillo.

43 people were sitting on board the bus, along with many others standing in the aisle, when it plunged into the rocky Moche River.

Authorities believe the death toll may rise.


Among the dead are many doctors and nurses.

The bus was heading to Trujillo when it went off the road and into the river around 4:10 a.m.

The cause of the crash is unknown at this time.

The investigation is ongoing.
