EAST MEADOW (PIX11) – A Long Beach man was arrested Tuesday after an alleged hate-fueled attack on two black golfers at Eisenhower Park, cops say.
According to police, Grant Smith, 48, was playing as a single when he approached the two senior male golfers, berating them with racial slurs. Detectives say when the men reached the fifth hole, Smith hit the 65-year-old man with his golf club in the calf. The hit was allegedly so hard, the head of the club broke off. Smith then began threatening to stab the men with the broken club.
Smith fled course and was later arrested at his Long Beach residence.
The victim was treated for a contusion on his calf at a local hospital.
Smith is being charged with two counts of second degree assault and two counts of second degree menacing. He will be arraigned Friday at First District Court in Hempstead.
