Finally, there appears to be some progress in efforts to gun control reforms. That is if you consider progress an agreement in the U.S. Senate to at least debate the issue. A number of republicans had threatened to derail the talks. And this week, the House of Representatives is expected to get a compromise bill on background checks for gun buyers.
The debate is active and lively with gun advocates fighting against infringement of their second amendment rights and families of those killed by gun violence fight for sanity legislation that would curtail further gun violence.
At the forefront on the battle is New York congresswoman Carolyn Maloney, once described by time magazine as a “tenacious, resilient legislator.” A Manhattan democrat, now serving her 11th term, Maloney has been the target of recent death threats because of her advocacy for stronger gun control measures.
