WARREN

(LA TIMES) – The youngest son of Pastor Rick Warren, a world-famous Orange County evangelical pastor, has committed suicide, according to a statement sent by Warren and his wife to his congregation.

Matthew Warren, 27, the son of the leader of Saddleback  Church in Lake Forest, died after battling depression for much of his life, the statement said.

Matthew was an “incredibly kind, gentle and compassionate man. He had a brilliant intellect and a gift for sensing who was most in pain or most uncomfortable in a room. He’d then make a beeline to that person to engage and encourage them,” the statement said.

Pastor and Mrs. Warren & family, I am not here to say I am sorry for your loss! I am a Born Again Christian and I am here to say that during this time, it is not that one has "lost a son" but that the Warren Family can celebrate the FOREVER LIVING in Heaven with God Our Father Almighty! My thoughts and prayers are with you all! God Bless You!

God Bless you and your family during this lost. I've gained so much from reading your books. I pray that I could only return the blessing.

My heart is saddened and confused for your loss…I know this is already in God's hands but the grieving must be unbearable…Having a son, the same age, suffering with mental illness, I FEAR this outcome EVERYDAY…
As a Saddleback member, I was touched by Tom's message…God's Blessings to the Warren Family…
