NEW JERSEY (PIX11)- The body of a man lying smack in the middle of a residential New Jersey street in the wee hours of the morning.  He was struck and killed by a driver who never stopped.

Margaret Burke described the accident scene in front of her home at the border of Hasbrouck Heights and Lodi.

Police responded to a 911 call around 3 a.m.

They believe the driver was heading eastbound towards Route 17 when he hit the man who was crossing busy Williams Avenue.

“It is a very busy street, hard to get across it sometimes like 4 o’clock in the evening you can’t get across the street. And they do go very fast,” says neighbor Barbara Ferraro

“People they speed they want to make the turn they want to beat the light,” says resident Arlene Sanzari.

The victim’s identity has not yet been released. Police say the person who ran him over was behind the wheel of a four door Honda Accord.

They may find out more from a piece of the car left behind.
