rutgers athletic director Tim_Pernetti resignsRutgers University athletic director Tim Pernetti has reportedly stepped down from his post amid a brewing scandal involving abuse of basketball players caught on tape.

The news comes just two days after head coach Mike Rice was fired from his job, following the release of the shocking video that shows him berating and abusing players.

The New York Times is reporting that when Pernetti first learned about the abuse four months ago he suspended Rice but still allowed him to keep his job.

Soon after the surfacing of the video, Pernetti released a statement, admitting he regretted his initial disciplining of Rice.

“I thought it was in the best interest of everyone to rehabilitate, but I was wrong,” he said.
