ELMHURST, Queens (PIX11) — It was only around 7:25 on Friday evening when a young 23 year old woman jogging in Forest Park in Forest Hills was attacked by a man who used a stun gun on his victim before sexually assaulting her. On Tuesday, after circulating a sketch of their suspect detectives arrested the man they believe to be responsible, 42 year old Richard Kassebaum. Kassebaum is charged with Attempted Predatory Sexual Assault, Attempted Rape and Sex Abuse.
However, police are now busy with another case. This one took place just less than three miles away and three days later, where police say another man threatened a 41 year old woman with a knife around Corona Avenue in Elmhurst, forced her to a cemetery behind a local church before he raped her.
“You never really think about it. You take this path often,” said one Elmhurst resident, Jacqueline Leonard.
Investigators released a sketch of their suspect, who was shown wearing several earrings in each ear, ranged in age from 25 to 30 years old, 150 to175 pounds with black spiked hair.
In the meantime, longtime residents, like Cathy SanFilippo, who lived in the Elmhurst neighborhood for 36 years said she was in disbelief over the violent attack so close to her home.
Others who walk these streets on a daily basis say they will now be even more conscious of their surroundings but are also now hoping for more stepped up patrols by the NYPD.
