After thousands of interviews, a slew of news specials and high-profile exclusives, veteran newswoman Barbara Walters is reportedly calling it quits.

According to TVNewswer, the ABC News anchor will retire in May 2014, closing the book on an extraordinary career that spanned five decades.

The 83-year-old will go out with a bang … with a number of specials, tributes and events that will lead up to her official sign off next year.

The news of Walters’ retirement comes just weeks after she suffered a health scare, contracting chicken pox prompting a leave of absence for ABC and her daytime talk show “The View”
