NJ mayor dies after speaking engagement

Residents of the New Jersey borough of Watchung lost their mayor Sunday afternoon.

Mayor Jerry Mobus died suddenly yesterday, following an apparent heart attack.

The courier news says the 70-year-old collapsed after speaking at the boys basketball luncheon awards ceremonies. He was pronounced dead at overlook hospital in summit.

“It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our Mayor, the honorable Gerald Mobus. Words cannot express the sadness felt within the Borough family,” said the Watchung, NJ on NJ.com Facebook page. “We’ll miss you, Jerry.”

Funeral arrangements are pending.
