Troubled actress Lindsay Lohan avoided jail time again today by agreeing to spend 90 days in a locked in drug rehab facility as part of a plea deal to settle criminal charges against her Monday. She entered pleas of no contest on two misdemeanor charges related to a traffic accident last summer when she drove her Porsche into a truck in LA.
She did not challenge the finding that she violated her probation on a 2011 shoplifting conviction, and Judge James Dabney sentenced her to 180 days in jail, then stayed that sentence, and said she would not serve more time behind bars if she met the terms of this deal.
Her legal troubles go back six years to two drunk driving arrests in 2007 and include other incidents when she was driving. When the judge handed down her sentence today, he had a suggestion for her: don’t drive.
He also sentenced her to 30 days of community service and 18 months of psychotherapy and extended her probation period.
Her father Michael Lohan was in the courtroom, but witnesses said there was not interaction between the two. After the proceedings, Michael Lohan got into a shouting match with her attorneys. He has been opposed to her New York based lawyer, Mark Heller, ever since he took over about a month ago. Heller has been reprimanded by the judge for not being familiar with California criminal law.
