On and off for the past few months Tudor City neighbors have been irritated, awakened and maddened by a sound. A Co-op in the Manhattan neighborhood hired a noise expert to test the decibel levels and track the sound. The report points to a level from an MTA ventilation system that exceeds the city’s noise code. They are submitting a report to the MTA. Their calls to 311 have resulted in a scheduled visit by the NYC Department of Environmental Protection.

A few years ago, neighbors across the East River on the other side of the tunnel complained about a similar sound. The MTA agreed to address the problem.
