CANARSIE (PIX11) — Police have charged a 58-year-old Canarsie man with murdering his 51-year-old wife, allegedly almost decapitating her, and the victims’s family is baffled because Hazel and Ian Robinson seemed to be a couple without any problems.

“She was a happy, spirited, fun-loving person,” Joan Cato, a  cousin, told PIX11. “We just don’t know what happened.”

Just before noon Sunday, police received a 911 call about an assault at 1460 E. 102nd St.  When they arrived they found Hazel Robinson unconscious with severe injuries to her neck. Police day she’d been nearly decapitated. After hours of questioning her husband, police charged him, Ian Robinson, with murder.

Family friends can’t understand what happened.

“It’s a thin line between sanity and insanity, Ron McLennon, victims’s and suspect’s friend said. “I can’t take sides. I know both parties.”

Hazel Robinson leaves behind a son in his 30s and friends and family — and many neighbors who loved her.
