A fire ripped through three homes in Jersey City this morning.  Thanks to some quick thinking of a neighbor, two families are alive to tell the story.

“They were just going everywhere boom, bomb, boom; I look out the window and (there’s) big balls of fire and I said ‘Oh my goodness!!’”

Flames shot out of the roof of a family’s home just off of MLK drive in Jersey City.  The fast moving fire swept through at least three homes inside of which two families were sleeping.  Both families would likely have died if not for the heroic actions of their neighbor, Willie Jones.

“I was up you were up at four in the morning,” Jones said, when he smelled the smoke and ran next door to wake his neighbors.

The owner of the two homes destroyed by flames spoke exclusively to PIX11 news.

“I had to wake up my babies so we could get out of the house,” said one woman. “Thank god for them helping us (to) get out of our houses.”

FireCrying

“I had to wake up my babies so we could get out of the house,” said one woman. “Thank god for them helping us (to) get out of our houses.”

Unbelievably, there were no injuries in the massive fire.

The cause is still under investigation.

The families lost everything in the fire but the clothes on their back; however they are grateful to be alive.

Actually, two policemen are the reason these families are alive to tell the story. They discovered the fire while patrolling the area and barged into the home to save the residents affected.
