Farebeaters are frustrating riders who swipe their metrocards and pay to ride mass transit. The MTA is stepping up patrols of “Eagle Teams.”
Many of these officers are retired military or NYPD. They have been cruising the Select Bus Routes for a few years, racking up as many as 20,000 tickets in one year.
Several MTA Board members have asked staff to track the number of fare beaters and what they cost the system.
