The manager of a small hotel in Clinton Hill confirmed to PIX 11 that a married, Williamsburg rabbi brought a “tall boy” to a room there, for eight hours, on January 17th.
33-year-old Yoel Malik, a father of five who once ran a yeshiva for “at risk” boys, is now facing multiple criminal charges of sex abuse, reportedly involving three teens between the ages of 14 and 16.
But the rabbi’s mother, who doesn’t want to be identified, told PIX her son is the victim of an extortion attempt by a former employee at Ohr HaMeir yeshiva in Williamsburg, which is now closed.
“I don’t believe one bit these accusations,” Rabbi Malik’s mother told PIX 11 at Brooklyn Criminal Court. “He has someone who threatened to turn him in, if he didn’t pay $10,000.”
But the manager of the Washington Hotel in Clinton Hill, Vittal Poojari, said of Malik, “He stayed for eight hours,” with the tall boy on January 17th. PIX 11 went to the room, 2-C, where Malik allegedly paid $40 for the initial four hours, and we noticed hard-core porn playing on a flat screen TV affixed high on the wall. The room then cost $10 an hour for the remaining four hours Malik stayed.
Published reports say Malik had sex with a male teen at one hotel, while another teen fled from a different hotel, when Malik started rubbing the boy’s back. Yet another boy reportedly told police that Rabbi Malik groped the teen’s groin in a car.
Malik is a member of the ultra-Orthodox Satmar Hasidic Jewish community in Williamsburg, which has been reeling from multiple sex molestation cases in recent years. Just last week, a popular counselor there, Nechemya Weberman, was sentenced to 103 years in prison–for turning a 12 year old girl in his care into a virtual sex slave, over a three year period.
Friends of Rabbi Malik said they believe a former employee who plea-bargained a deal in a sex abuse case in 2007 is the man who called a rape hotline about Malik.
