New York has some famous avenues and streets. After a vote by city council and approval by the mayor, streets can be named for people.
On Tuesday, a press conference was held at the corner of 44th Street at 7th Avenue with Barry Manilow and fans. At the event, a sign with the words “Manilow Way” was unveiled on the corner. A press release from a PR company said the city had honored him with his “very own street.”
But as of Thursday, the sign was not posted on the corner. City officials say the events was ceremonial.
People can purchase NYC street signs on the DOT’s website http://www.nyc.gov/html/dot/html/signs/cmsigns.shtml
Manilow, a Brooklyn native, was scheduled to open a Broadway show this week at the St. James Theatre on 44th Street. But performances have been rescheduled for next week because he is suffering from “bronchitis” his representatives say.
