Long Island fire

A squatter was killed in this fire on Long Island early Thursday.

Police on Long Island say a squatter died in an early morning inside a vacant home.

Fire crews were called to the scene in Central Islip just after 5 a.m. They couldn’t get inside the home at first because of intense flames and smoke.

When the fire was finally put out, the body of a man was found in the basement. The man’s identity has not yet been released.

The fire is under investigation.
