Early morning Yonkers fire leaves nearly 3 dozen homeless

YONKERS (PIX11) – Firefighters battled a two alarm fire in Yonkers early Wednesday morning.

The fire was first reported on the top floor of 138 Hawthorne Ave. at about 12:30 a.m.

Responding firefighters battled heavy flames on the fourth floor as well.

The Red Cross was called in to help relocate a total of 33 residents left homeless.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
