4-alarm fire tears through Washington Heights apartment building

A fire that broke out in the first-floor store of a Washington Heights building has now spread to the apartment units above.

The 4-alarm blaze at 2440 Amsterdam Ave. near W. 181st St has now spread throughout the first four floors of the building.


Firefighters have to deal with freezing temperatures that are now around 10 degrees.

No injuries have been reported.

    That is one very good reason to make sure your apartment has as many safety features as possible. Something like this will more than ruin anyone's day.

    A lot of apartments display safety features but some are not working or is not activated. The smoke detector in our previous apartment is not working unless there is an inspection made by the local government so my hubby and I decided to transfer immediately when we found out that the staffs there does that.
