LONG ISLAND (PIX11) – A dramatic scene unfolded near the Brentwood Long Island Rail Road station after a train struck a vehicle on the tracks Tuesday.

Authorities say at least two people – who were traveling in the vehicle – were killed in the wreck that happened sometime after 10 a.m.

The initial crash sparked a fireball that was captured in photographs posted on Twitter.

Responding firefighters managed to contain the flames in about 30 minutes.

The train, which is described as an equipment train, was carrying rail workers at the time of the crash. No serious injuries were reported.

A spokesperson for Long Island Rail Road said the incident has caused a suspension of service on the Ronkonkoma Branch between Ronkonkoma and Farmingdale that will last “several hours.”

Authorities were still on the scene Tuesday afternoon, trying to determine why the vehicle was on the tracks in the first place.
