CONNECTICUT (PIX11) – In an effort to pay tribute to a heroic teacher who risked her life for her students in the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre, officials voted to name a new school after Vicki Soto.

Soto, 27, was one of six staff members to die in the Dec. 14 rampage, which also claimed the lives of 20 students.

Seven of her students were found huddled and unharmed in a classroom closet, apparently hidden by her. Other students were able to flee.

During a vote Monday, town officials gave a standing ovation when the school was officially named “Victoria Soto School.”
