GERRITSEN BEACH, BROOKLYN (PIX11)– Gerritsen Beach suffered greatly after Hurricane Sandy hit. It was not a mandatory evacuation zone, but residents had to deal with flooding and lots of damage. One man had 7-feet of water in his basement. His boiler was ruined and his chimney cracked, destroying the only sources he had for heat.

He has flood insurance but when he contacted Allstate he got little help. The insurance company inspected the damage and said it was not related to Sandy. They then scolded the man for getting a new heater.

That is until PIX arrived and called the insurance company to help him out.
