A woman collapsed through a Manhattan sidewalk after the concrete gave way Friday night on the Upper East Side.

The woman, who was not immediately identified, was quickly rescued by FDNY and EMS crews after tumbling seven feet into a vault outside the Atomic Wings restaurant at East 60th Street and Second Avenue. She is in stable condition at New York Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center.

A fire official told PIX11 that the woman was waiting for the bus on the rainy evening outside 301 E. 60th St. near the Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge when she stepped back a few feet, closer to the restaurant, and the sidewalk gave way.

The fire official said the sidewalk may have collapsed because it was” it’s time. It was an old piece of concrete.” The variable weather, with cold and warm days, may have also weakened the sidewalk.

A cause for the sidewalk failure was not immediately determined, with the Buildings Department set to inspect the area. The restaurant is closed for now.
