NEW YORK (PIX11) — Bill deBlasio wants to get the mold out of the homes and businesses of victims of Superstorm Sandy.
On Saturday, the New York City Public Advocate announced a four-point plan on just how to get this done.
He’s asking for Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to reimburse mold cleanup; he wants to create a mold crisis and help hotline, expand mold inspections and set up a health monitoring network for those who suffered sandy-related injuries.
DeBlasio says the problem is so bad, there’s now a name for the sickness caused by mold; the “Rockaway Cough.”
FEMA does not reimburse homeowners for mold-related damages — at least, not right now.
