For the second time in two years, drivers, train and bus riders will be paying more to the MTA. On Wednesday at the monthly meeting, MTA board members voted to approve a package and toll and fare increase. Board member Allen Cappelli cast the only “no” vote saying it’s not fare to areas that are underserved by the MTA.

The MTA is still facing budget problems, rising costs and debt, and labor negotiations.

Also at the meeting, MTA Chairman Joseph Lhota announced his resignation effective December 31st. Governor Cuomo named him to the post and he was confirmed by the state senate in January 2012. Lhota says he will be considering a run for mayor of New York City.
