Hillary Clinton cancels Middle East trip due to stomach virus

WASHINGTON (PIX11) – Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has pulled out of her planned trip to the Middle East this week after falling ill with a stomach bug.

According to the State Department, Clinton was expected to take part in the Friends of the Syrian People meeting where leaders are slated to gather to discuss the ongoing Syria crisis.

Going in Clinton s place will be Deputy Secretary of State Bill Burns.

Burns along will join foreign ministers from allied nations in Morocco to discuss the future of Syria. It s been nearly 20 months since rebel fighting commenced in the region, in an effort to oust President Bashar al-Assad.

Clinton will resume her public schedule when she shakes the apparent bug, the State Department said.
