Hi There! If you are an early riser, before the sun is up, before the mad rush of the morning commute and dare I say before your first cup of coffee, you can catch my reports on the PIX11 Morning News starting at 4am until 9am.
Now, one of the first questions people ask me is ‘Dan, how do you get up so early?’ The answer: Coffee, coffee, coffee! Lots of it! (To be frank, I am not happy if I don’t have my three cups in the morning, no offense.)
Kidding aside, the truth is, I absolutely love my job here at PIX11. I love bringing YOU the news and information you need to get your day started and moving. I love meeting you out on stories and seeing you on Facebook and Twitter chiming in with your thoughts on a story ( keep the comments and emails coming, by the way.)
I joined PIX11 News in September of 2011 and couldn’t be happier to be reporting in the area I was born and raised in. Since I joined the team, I have reported on all things from breaking news, to the Giants winning the Super Bowl, to crime, to helping solve peoples problems and issues. While reporting is my passion, nothing makes my job feel more fulfilling than seeing someone smile after a problem is solved. The biggest effort to help people so far has been the “Pix 11 Cares” efforts to help bring attention to hard hit areas from Superstorm Sandy – know you are not forgotten.
Now, another question I often get is “What is your favorite story of all time?” It’s hard to pinpoint just one.
Some of the highlights here at PIX11 include traveling to Rome, Italy for the elevation of Archbishop Timothy Dolan to Cardinal (and no it’s not my favorite just because I am Italian.) Another was an investigation into a toxic spill in Le Roy, NY that led to a massive cleanup by the Environmental Protection Agency and won a NY State Broadcasters Award for ” Best Hard News Story.”
Before I joined the PIX11 family, I worked at NY1 News and Verizon FiOs 1 News on Long Island and New Jersey. While at FiOs 1, I was nominated for a regional Emmy Award for an investigation into a nuclear power plant in New Jersey and if it was prepared for a natural disaster.
In full disclosure, I didn’t always want to be a reporter. I actually wanted to be a lawyer. But, while at Manhattan College, I switched gears while taking a few journalism courses and fell in love with it. The deal was sealed after I met a reporter who urged me to get involved in an internship. If I could offer any advice to anyone who is curious about this career it would be to take a few classes and do as MANY internships as possible. It pays off, and will help in the long run.
If you have a story you want me to look into or just want to say hello – send me an email at dan@pix11.com or check me out on Twitter or Facebook.
