  • Grandmother, toddler missing in Brooklyn found safe

    EAST FLATBUSH, Brooklyn — A  grandmother with dementia who went missing with her 2-year-old granddaughter on Saturday have been found safe. Police say 56-year-old Khadija Begum and her granddaughter, Zakirah Shafiq, were last seen at their home Saturday at around 11 a.m. on Avenue D  in the East Flatbush section of Brooklyn when they were reported missing. Police said they were found just after midnight. There was no explanation for the incident.  

  • Body found along Hudson River

    HAMILTON HEIGHTS, Manhattan — A man’s body washed up along the Hudson River in Harlem  Saturday afternoon, police said. Officers were called at around 1:40 p.m. to the Hudson River near West 135 Street to find a man in his 40s unconscious and unresponsive. EMS responded and pronounced the man dead. There were no visible signs of trauma. The medical examiner will determine the cause of death.

  • Pair posing as police officers rob 60-year-old man in Queens

    ELMHURST, Queens — Police released video of two men they say impersonated police officers and robbed a 60-year-old man in Queens. The two men approached the victim just before 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday near Ithaca and Britton avenues. The robbers drove up to the victim and identified themselves as police officers, authorities said.     UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, The Bronx — Police released video on Saturday of a man they say attacked another man in a Bronx grocery store. The attack happened just after 2:30 p.m. on Aug. 6 inside a grocery store on 27 West 183 Street. The culprit walked into the store and got into an argument with the 30-year-old victim, police said.   • Mother, infant die within days of each other after fleeing Hurricane Irma

    ATLANTA — A Florida mother and her 3-month-old baby are dead after fleeing to Georgia to escape Hurricane Irma, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. Kaitlin Hunt, 28, died just three days after her daughter, Riley, was killed in a car collision.     BEDFORD-STUYVESANT, Brooklyn —  A man was shot in Bedford-Stuyvesant on Wednesday, fire officials said. The shooting happened on Lexington and Marcy avenues just before 12:30 p.m. It’s not clear what led to the shooting. The victim was transported to the hospital.   • New York Pizza Festival says it will refund tickets for disappointing event

    BUSHWICK, Brooklyn — Pizza lovers who bought tickets to the New York Pizza Festival will receive a full refund. “After careful deliberation, and much back and forth about our customer’s best interest, we have agreed on refunding all tickets from the pizza and burger festivals,” organizers of the ill-fated festival announced on their Facebook page.
