Suspect sought after man, 78, stabbed at tailor shop in midtown

KIPS BAY, Manhattan — Police are looking for the person who stabbed a 78-year-old man at a tailor shop in Kips Bay Monday afternoon.

The attack happened around 12:45 p.m. on East 27th Street near Third Avenue, police said.

Police said the suspect stabbed the man multiple times in the chest and slashed him in the face while demanding money.

The victim initially struggled but eventually gave the individual approximately $80 in cash from his pocket, police said.

The suspect stabbed and cut the victim a few more times before he fled the store eastbound on East 27 Street.

The victim was transported to the hospital with stab wounds to his chest, lacerations to his face, a fractured skull and a punctured left lung. The victim was listed in critical but stable condition.

The suspect is described as 40 to 50 years old, 5'8 to 5'11, 160 to 190 pounds, with a beard. He was last seen wearing a blue hooded coat, blue jeans and black sneakers.
