BRONX — A Bronx public school is being disinfected this weekend after students and faculty members reportedly contracted norovirus.

The Department of Education said in a statement they are looking into reports of students and faculty contracting stomach flu-like symptoms at P.S. 83 in the Morris Park section of the Bronx.

“Families are being notified and the school we will be thoroughly disinfected today and again over the weekend out of an abundance of caution,” a spokesperson for the Department of Education said.

A PIX11 viewer had said “half the students and half the teachers were out sick today with norovirus,” but the DOE spokesperson said it was too early to make that conclusion because attendance numbers have not been released.

It’s unclear how many students and faculty contracted norovirus or what caused the outbreak.
