NEWARK, N.J. — Police arrested a 35-year-old man who allegedly assaulted a woman and locked her into the trunk of a car in Newark on Wednesday night, Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose  said.

Kevin Little, an Irving resident, is accused of hitting a 25-year-old woman around 8:15 p.m., Ambrose said. When officers responded to the intersection of South 20th Street and 19th Avenue, they heard screams for help coming from the trunk of a parked 1993 Pontiac Bonneville.

Officers forced the trunk open and found the woman inside, Ambrose said. The woman was taken to University Hospital for treatment.

Police officers canvassed the area and arrested Little without incident, Ambrose said. Officers charged Little with aggravated assault.
