Drunk, drug-impaired driver dies in Staten Island police cell: NYPD

NEW YORK — Police say a woman has died in a holding cell on Staten Island after being arrested for drunken driving and operating a vehicle while impaired by drugs.

Police say the 34-year-old woman had been transported to a hospital for evaluation after being arrested just after 4:30 a.m. Thursday.

After the woman was treated she was taken to the 120th Precinct and placed in a holding cell where police say she was later found unconscious and unresponsive. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman’s name has not yet been released.

Police are still investigating.
