FLORIDA — Police in Florida received a different kind of call on Thursday: an invitation to Thanksgiving dinner.

A little boy – only identified as Billy – called 911 to invite Walton County deputies to his family’s Thanksgiving dinner, Sheriff Michael Adkinson said on his Facebook page.

“With all the bad calls we take on a daily basis this one was a welcomed happy call that made all of us smile,” said Lead Communications Officer Monica Webster.

The officers couldn’t make it to Billy’s house for dinner, but Deputy Damon Byrd and Deputy Aaron Ethridge still visited, Sheriff Adkinson said. The deputies gave Billy a Sheriff’s Badge and let him sit in the front seat of their patrol car.

“While we do not encourage this use of 911… we are so honored at the invitation,” Sheriff Adkinson wrote. “Thank you Billy for making all of our days here at WCSO.”
