KKK fliers found in Patchogue overnight

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. — Ku Klux Klan fliers were found on cars in Patchogue early Thursday, Suffolk County police officials said.

“Our race is our nation,” is written across the flier.

There’s also a drawing of a Klan member on the flier. The phrase “Loyal White Knights of the KKK,”  which is the name of a North Carolina-based group, along with a website and a phone number are listed under the drawing on the fliers.

The fliers were found on cars in a parking lot off of Main Street around 2 a.m., a police spokesperson said.

Incidents like this happen from time to time, but are not usually considered criminal, Suffolk County Police officials said. Fliers like it are covered under freedom of speech laws.

Ku Klux Klan recruitment fliers have previously been found in Suffolk County in West Babylon and Shirley. Those fliers referred to the shooting death of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri in August 2015.
