Brooklyn man – upset that his mother loves his brother more than him – allegedly severs woman’s finger: police

FLATBUSH, Brooklyn — Thanksgiving might be awkward for one Brooklyn family.

A Brooklyn man, upset over a belief that his mother loves his brother more than him, allegedly slashed several of his family members Saturday night, police officials said.

Maurice Braswell, 49, allegedly severed a female family member’s finger after he pulled out a knife during an argument, according to court documents. He was charged with assault, attempted assault, menacing, criminal possession of a weapon and harassment during his Sunday night arraignment.

Braswell was apparently in a Flatbush apartment on East 21st Street in Flatbush with several family members around 8:15 p.m. on Saturday night when he pulled out a knife during an argument, according to court documents. In addition to severing one family member’s finger, he also allegedly injured two other family members.

One male family member had lacerations to the head and hand, court documents show. Another male family member also received a laceration to the hand.

Braswell is scheduled to be back in court on Nov. 18.
