Man wanted for stealing religious artifacts, cash from Brooklyn church

SHEEPSHEAD BAY, Brooklyn — Police are asking for the public's assistance Sunday to find a man who allegedly broke into a church and stole cash and religious artifacts.

The man went into the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist on Voorhies Avenue in the Sheepshead Bay section of Brooklyn Thursday afternoon, police said.

He allegedly stole numerous religious artifacts and $30 before fleeing the church.

He's described as being between 30 and 45 years old and has black hair. He was last seen wearing a tan coat, dark pants and black shoes.

He can be seen in surveillance photo and video obtained by police and released to the public.
