LAKE RONKONKOMA, N.Y. — A man was found dead in his room at an assisted living facility and another man has been charged in his death.

Staff members were doing a welfare check Saturday inside the Lake Shore Adult Home in Lake Ronkonkoma when they found Francis McCaffrey, 82, unresponsive in his room around 10 a.m.

Police were called and an investigation revealed that Roger Diamond, 73, allegedly repeatedly struck McCaffrey and killed him.

Diamond then allegedly jumped out of the second floor window, falling approximately 15 feet, police said. He was taken to a local hospital to be treated for his injuries.

Diamond has been charged with second degree murder and is expected to be arraigned at a later date.

McCaffrey’s injuries and exact cause of death will be further investigated by the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.
