Service resumes after LIRR train strikes vehicle on track in Central Islip

NEW YORK — LIRR service on the Ronkonkoma branch has been resumed after a train struck a vehicle on the track in Central Islip Sunday evening.

The LIRR train leaving from Penn Station struck a car around 5:40 p.m. near Carlton Avenue West in Central Islip.

There were no reported injuries, according to an LIRR spokesperson.

Trains between Farmingdale and Ronkonkoma has been suspended as of 8:30 p.m., the MTA said on Twitter.

By 9 p.m., trains were running again.
