2 dead in North Bellmore multi-vehicle crash: police

NORTH BELLMORE, N.Y. — Two people are dead after a multi-car crash in North Bellmore Friday night involving several vehicles and a pedestrian.

Stephen Rossman, 20, and an unidentified female pedestrian died during the incident, police said.

Rossman was driving west on Jerusalem Avenue when he rear ended a Nissan Altima, causing the driver to spin out of control.

The driver struck the female pedestrian as she was crossing Jerusalem Avenue heading north. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the Altima continued to spin before it struck a Subaru heading east. At the same time, Rossman's car continued west and struck a dumpster. The dumpster then struck another Nissan vehicle heading west and damaged the rear end of the car, according to police.

Rossman's car then came to a stop after hitting a truck parked on Jerusalem Avenue. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Nissan Altima was taken to a hospital for treatment of her non-life threatening injuries. The Subaru driver and the driver of the second Nissan both refused treatment and were able to drive away from the scene, police said.

The pedestrian has not yet been identified pending family notification.
