Teen suspect arrested in fatal shooting of Bronx woman who was waiting to pick up niece

THE BRONX – Police have arrested the teenager accused of fatally shooting an innocent bystander Wednesday afternoon.

It happened just before 1 p.m. in the area of East 154th Street.

Orlando Oquendo, 17, was chasing an unknown man on Courtlandt Avenue around 1 p.m. Wednesday when he allegedly fired a gun and struck Maribel Cavero-Reyes, 45, in her chest, the NYPD said.

She was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Cavero-Reyes was waiting to pick up her niece from school, police said.
