SOUTH JAMAICA, Queens — A man has been arrested in the death of a 43-year-old Queens woman, whose body was found in a vehicle near Baisley Pond Park after being reported missing, the NYPD said Friday.
Qwantrell Gilliam, 41, of Queens, is charged with murder of his ex-girlfriend, along with tampering with physical evidence and criminal possession of a weapon.
Police say Rochedale resident Dayo Corley was reported missing after last being seen around 2 a.m. Saturday near 137th Avenue and Farmers Boulevard, at the border of Rochdale and St. Albans, police said Monday.
Her body was found Monday at 12:06 p.m. near Baisley Pond Park at 122 Avenue and Lakeview Lane in South Jamaica as police scoured the area in search of her vehicle, sources said.
Corley was unconscious and unresponsive when found in the driver’s seat of a black Chevy Equinox, police said.
She had bruising to her right eye and a puncture wound to the neck area, according to a police source.
The Chevy Equinox is Corley’s own vehicle, according to a woman who identified herself as a coworker when she called PIX11 Monday morning seeking information about Corley’s disappearance.
The medical examiner pronounced Corley dead at the scene, which is located about a mile and a half from where she was last spotted.
Her cause of death has not yet been determined, although police on Tuesday said it has been deemed a homicide.
