Woman believed to be innocent bystander fatally shot in the Bronx: NYPD

THE BRONX — A woman fatally shot in the Bronx Wednesday afternoon was most likely an innocent bystander, according to the NYPD.

The shooting happened just before 1 p.m. in the area of East 154 Street.

Police arrived to find a 45-year-old woman with a gunshot wound to her chest. She was transported to Lincoln Hospital where she was pronounced deceased.

The woman has been identified at Maribel Cavero-Reyes of Morris Avenue, Bronx.

Police sources say two men were chasing another person while shooting when a stray bullet struck the woman.

No arrests have been made.

The investigation is ongoing.
